Using a pain dairy can help you and your doctor/healthcare professional to understand your pain and what effects it. It can also help you to discuss your symptoms with healthcare professions and family members. This can, in turn help you manage your pain and to aid the finding of the most effective treatments.
Note your perception of your pain on the Stanford Pain Scale (1-10) each day at different times of the day and note anything that could affect it e.g. extra painkillers taken, specific activity e.g. gardening or how you have slept the night before. You can download and fill in our pain dairy or if you prefer, print it out.
Review your diary throughout the month and discuss it with your doctor/healthcare professional.
