Why Yes Baby?
Approximately 70% of couples trying to conceive experience vaginal dryness, thus making sexual intercourse painful. All traditional, glycerine based lubricants damage sperm. So couples using glycerine-based lubricants, such as KY Jelly, may inadvertently prevent conception rather than enabling it. The two main factors that damage sperm are pH and osmolality – the osmolality of glycerine-based lubricants is too high for sperm and often the pH is too low. Vaginal pH is typically acidic, and therefore hostile to sperm, except during ovulation (the most fertile period).
Sperm friendly lubricants match semen pH (slightly alkaline) and osmolality, to ensure sperm longevity. Critically, when vaginal pH is elevated above its typical protective acidity the likelihood of infection such as bacterial vaginosis or Thrush is significantly increased. Incidence of bacterial vaginosis is linked to various reproductive and pregnancy related events including early pregnancy loss, preterm labour and preterm delivery. Therefore, when trying to conceive it is vitally important vaginal health is maintained, to give a fertilised egg the best possible chance of developing to full term.
So the use of just a sperm friendly lubricant (such as Pre-Seed or Conceive Plus) could challenge healthy vaginal pH. Uniquely Yes Baby has the solution by also providing the vagina friendly moisturising lubricant to restore the protective acidic vaginal pH after ovulation, thus reducing the likelihood of infection. The pack also contains 5 high sensitivity ovulation strips to enable you to pinpoint ovulation and thus use the correct lubricant at the correct time. These ovulation tests are the same as those used by the NHS:
The table below summarises the differences between Yes Baby and other supposed fertility friendly lubricants.
|Yes Baby||Fertility Friendly Lubricants
(Pre-Seed, Conceive Plus, Zestica)
|A two-pack conception friendly lubricant system. Holistic view of vaginal pH management
||A one pack, high pH sperm/fertility friendly lubricant. Ignores vaginal pH considerations. Sperm pH centric|
|Guaranteed pure & natural through Soil Association Organic Certification
||No purity or natural guarantees, all contain synthetic chemicals and Methylparaben as a preservative|
|Addresses both sperm and vaginal health, with ovulation sticks to enable self management*||Only sperm focused, no pH reduction, leaves vaginal pH high increasing risk of infection*|
*Infections such as Bacterial vaginosis and thrush are more likely when the protective vaginal pH is elevated. Bacterial vaginosis is known to be a risk factor in early miscarriage.
