The SD Codefree Blood Glucose Meter is a compact, hand-held, and easy-to-read monitor that stores up to 500 test results. It provides an accurate picture of your blood glucose level at the time of the test from a small droplet of blood. Use the included lancing device to quickly prick your finger and add a drop of blood onto the test strip. Then the SD CodeFree meter will automatically give a result.

Many people believe they know when their blood glucose levels are too high and therefore think there is no point in using a blood glucose monitor. Unfortunately, unless your blood glucose level is very high, this is often not true. The way you feel is not always a good or accurate guide to what is happening.
The SD CodeFree blood glucose testing machine gives an accurate picture of your blood glucose level at the time of the test, allowing you to manage your Diabetes at home. It involves pricking your finger with the lancing device and putting a drop of blood on a testing strip. The SD CodeFree Blood Glucose Meter will read the result automatically. Use the Self-Test diary included in the pack to record your results. This will help you and your healthcare team work out whether your treatment needs to be adjusted.
Please watch the video produced by Diabetest.co.uk about our NEW SD CodeFree Blood Glucose Meter.
You can choose whether you want a mmol/L meter (the UK standard) or mg/dL meter (the US and European standard) from the second drop-down menu.
If you are unusure which to choose, you can check which measurement your country uses here.
All methods of glucose testing involve collecting blood. This is obtained by pricking the skin, usually the fingertip, with a special lancet. However, if you have to test frequently, your fingers may get sore. In this case, you can use a diabetes monitor that enables you to take blood from other parts of the body, such as the palm, forearm or upper arm. This is known as alternate site testing (AST). However, you should always consult your diabetes specialist before testing from other parts of the body.

It does exactly what it is supposed to. Comes with everything you need to get started. Very good price for the kit and the test strips.
I have bought the meter and placed several orders for test strips. The order system is very easy to use and delivery has always been fast and reliable.

The machine is small & easy to use. The lancet pen is smooth & have have virtually no pain with use & no soreness, marks or bruising after use at all.
I couldn’t ask for better. Its totally perfect for my use.
Delivery was fast even though I ordered on a Saturday. I had it on the following Wednesday.

Excellent kit with everything you require to take your own blood glucose readings, contained in it’s own little pouch. Cost effective to buy and easy to use monitor gives all the information you need without the added complexity of touch screen, charts, downloads etc. Highly recommended.

Bought the SD Codefree blood glucose monitor complete set and extra testings strips. Both orders arrived as expected with no delay. The monitor is very easy to use. However, there is one thing I like to comment. That is the lancing device. My old one seem can have the the lancet be inserted into device better. The new one, that comes with the SD, feels like just have the lancet sitting on the top, not holding firmly (just about 1mm into the holder, my old one has 5mm into the holder). I did not want to push it too hard into the device, in case it will damage the spring element. So at the moment, I am still using the old lancing device to get blood for the test.
However, Overall i still think it is a good buy.

Very good, but deducted a star because the instructions could be clearer. They are plentiful in a well written book. However, the first 3 or 4 attempts were met with an “E1” error code saying that the strips were faulty. They weren’t. It was insufficient blood on the strip. So E1 has more than one meaning, but there is no mention in the book about this.

Every bit as good as the product originally supplied by my surgery and much cheaper. Website easy to navigate and arrival prompt. Will use from now on. Thanks!

Great little meter – it is every bit as accurate as any other big name branded meter that I have ever owned (done side by side tests using same finger prick).
The addition of an indicator to tell whether reading is pre or post meal is invaluable (as my meal times vary somewhat).
I use this meter and test strips as a type 1 patient (nearly 25 years now) even though I could use more the big named far more expensive test strips courtesy of the NHS – but why waste NHS money which we all ultimately pay for and are responsible for?

I Like my first meter so much that I bought a 2nd as a backup. Great speedy service and great prices as ever from Homehealth.
Excellent!!!

This company is excellent. They delivered the product very quickly and communication was prompt and helpful. The monitor is easy to use and great value for money. I ordered this product ‘blind’ from the website, my previous meter having stopped working. I would highly recommend both Homehealth-UK and this meter, and will be reordering from them again in the future.

As my GP practice has now decided to remove test strips from my prescription, I decided to buy The SD Codefree which is new to me.
I have to say that I find the cost’s, not only the meter, but test strips and lancets significantly less than other providers, with the added bonus of not having to complete the VAT reclaim form.
I have found the SD Codefree very easy to use and without the unnecessary ‘bells & whistles’
Shipping is very quick, 48 hours from order to delivery, excellent value and service.
Many thanks

Excellent value for money. Cheapest test strips out of all the other brands.
Summary (comparing Gluco RX Nexus mini to Code Free by a 3 month type 2 newbie)
Although there are a few things that are better about the Gluco Rx Nexus mini, seeing as the Code Free strips are much cheaper, and the costs add up fast, I would still recommend Code Free for anyone on a budget over Gluco Rx. However, if money is no issue, I’d go for Gluco RX Nexus mini.
Comparison with Gluco RX Nexus Mini glucose meter:
Pros-
1-Code Free test strips are cheaper. Save a lot of money in the long run.
2-Code Free kit bag is better than Gluco RX because the stitching is longer lasting. Although, like the Gluco RX brand, it stupidly does not have space for a spare test strip canister to be used as a bin for used strips and lancets (where on earth do they think people put them? In our pockets?!).
Cons-
1-Code Free meter uses button battery instead of AAA, so you cannot use rechargeable, and it might be harder to find replacement batteries.
2-Code Free meter does not have a back light, just an old LCD screen. (Although if you’re photo phobic, this is actually an advantage)
3-Code Free meter almost always reads higher than Gluco RX. Gluco RX will say 4.4mmol, Code Free will say 5.0mmol. I’ve done quite a few comparison tests, with the same drop of blood, and Code Free is almost always gives a reading which is 25% higher.
4-Code Free seems a bit more variable in what value it gives the same drop of blood tested twice (using the same meter). Gluco RX is usually more accurate (only varies 0.1mmol from one test from same drop of blood to another. Although sometimes it also gives wildly different results. I think this happens when I have residue on my fingers despite washing hands. I use magnesium oil and various other skin applied medicines a lot.
5-Code Free meter is about twice the size as the Nexus Mini.
6- Code Free kit doesn’t come with free control solution. Although it seems most people don’t need or use it anyway. It does come with an odd looking non disposable test strip. I still have no idea what this thing is for, and why I’ve not seen or heard of other brands using such a thing.
7-Instructions could be a bit better. Nexus ones are not great either, but a little better.
8- If you want to connect your Code Free to a computer to transfer the results, you must pay about £8 for a special cable (doesn’t seem to use ordinary mini USB). But with the Gluco RX Nexus mini, you get the cable for free by calling a tel number.
